11/8/09 - Spiritual Unemployment

Rick Eastman - Today pastor Rick Eastman will resume the sermon series “The Making of a Disciple”. Too many followers of Jesus are spiritually unemployed. It’s not because there’s a shortage of work. It’s because they have chosen to remain unemployed. This must not be something new because Jesus stated 2000 years ago, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” (Matt 9:37). And in response to this challenge he gives us the solution. He says, “Pray and ask God for more workers to respond to His call” (Matt 9:38). How many today would accept the challenge to find a place to minister at Discovery Church?

Rick Eastman - Did you know that Jesus compared the Church to a “rock”. Not jello, but a “rock”. And he also said that all of the powers of hell would not conquer it. This morning we will be looking more closely at Jesus’ statement in Matthew 16:18, “... I will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it.”

That vision is: DISCOVERY CHURCH EXISTS TO KNOW AND LOVE GOD: BY TRUSTING IN CHRIST, GROWING AS HIS HOLY PEOPLE, AND GOING WITH GOD EVERYDAY AS WE ARE SENT TO SPREAD HIS GOOD NEWS. This is why we exist as a church. Today pastor Rick will unveil the strategy for accomplishing this. He refers to this as imago dei community. This simply means a community reflecting the image of God. I pray that’s what we desire.

8/9/09 - Growing Pains: Being Discipled

Rick Eastman - A number of years ago there was a television program entitled "Growing Pains". It centered around a family who had a couple of younger kids. The program centered around the difficulties and challenges that both kids and parents experienced through the period in their lives where the kids were growing up and maturing. There was a lot of laughter and crying during each episode. That pretty well sums up our life as Christ's followers. In our "growing up" in Jesus there will be times of laughter as well as crying. But through it all we must keep focused on the goal of becoming more and more like Jesus. That's the goal of being discipled. Today, pastor Rick will go into more detail as to what that involves.

8/2/09 - GROW: What is a Disciple

Rick Eastman - Pastor Rick is in the process of preaching a sermon series based on our Vision Statement. Last week we completed the "Trust" component of our "GO" CYCLE. Today, we begin addressing the second key component of our Vision Statement. That component is "Grow". In the next few weeks we will be looking at: "What is a Disciple", "Are You Being Discipled", and "Who Are You Discipling". It is imperative that we grow in our relationship with Jesus. We will learn together how to do that.
